“Stardew Valley” patch lacks satisfaction for players

On April 24, 2017, the 1.2 update for the PC version of “Stardew Valley” was released, bringing with it translations for six new languages and bug fixes, as well as some unintended consequences.

The languages included were, according to a post on the official “Stardew Valley” website by Chucklefish community manager Molly Carroll, “German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.”

Despite being meant to fix bugs in the game, such as the bug where a certain recipe could be missed by skipping an event, and patch in features like the “Exit to Title” button and new languages, 1.2 has introduced some new problems.

GameCube title “Mario Kart Double Dash” remains a system staple

Back when “Mario Kart Double Dash” released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2003, it was applauded for its masterful gameplay, attractive graphics and overall pleasant experience. Garnering a score of 87 on Metacritic, it lived up to and perhaps exceeded its expectations as a first-party Nintendo title.

The years have gone by and, though the visuals have not aged quite as well, the gameplay seems untouched by the flow of time.

It had been years since I had played. In a moment of intense boredom, my boyfriend and I decided that we would give it a try. We hoped that our experiences with “Mario Kart 8” for the WiiU had not soured the older game.

Thankfully, we had no need to fear.

“Pikmin” makes the jump to handheld

It has been four long years for “Pikmin” fans since the release of “Pikmin 3.” The series, though starting in 2001, has only three titles to its name, with no known future for another.

That is, until the most recent Nintendo Direct.pikmin

On July 28, 2017, a spin-off title called “Hey! Pikmin” for the Nintendo 3DS will hit store shelves worldwide.

However, we are not playing a real-time strategy game, trying to protect Captain Olimar from a horrible fate. We are not treasure-hunting with a partner to save Hocotate Freight. We are not worrying about running out of juice before we finish carrying fruit back to the ship.

We are playing a side-scroller.

“Splatoon 2” paints a bright future for the series

Now that the “Splatoon 2 Global Testfire” has come to a close, much more about how the game will play and what new battle features will be implemented has come to light. The “Testfire,” which ran from March 24-26, 2017, was a downloadable online demo of the new “Splatoon” game.

With the recent news on the title, we won’t have to wait much longer for a chance to shoot some ink. The game will make a splash into the market on July 21, 2017.
